  3. Hi Brian,

I just read some of your papers. Well written and concise. In regards to your paper on divorce, I notice you neglected the Exodus position that allowed women to divorce their husbands if they (husbands) neglected to provide intimacy, food and shelter.

In Jesus day, this custom was still practised; though the wife had to get the husband to sanction it…if he didn’t the wife could go to the priests who would have the man beaten till he volunteered the divorce.

You can see the dichotomy at work when Jesus was asked if a man could divorce his wife for any reason… wanting to be able to divorce their wives before the wife could take hubby to the courts…. Jesus never spoke into the issue of wives being allowed to initiate the divorce.

  4. Craig,

Thanks for the kind words! I have left the divorce-remarriage file of my mind open. In fact, I can’t even recall the conclusions I defended in that paper! I am open to arguments either direction at this point.
