Epiphany 2013

I hope all my brothers and sisters in Christ have a blessed Epiphany. It is intriguing to me how most western traditions remember the visit of the Magi from the east while the eastern traditions remember the baptism of Christ in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Two different events, but both symbolize God revealing himself through Christ by the Spirit to the world. The Magi embody the Gentiles coming to Israel to meet Israel’s Messiah. The baptism of Jesus embodies God’s declaration to Jesus himself and to those that see Jesus that he is the approved Son of God. Whichever narrative is featured for you today let us thank God the Father for giving us his Son, Jesus, the one who reveals God to the world.

  1. The second icon is particularly beautiful! Do you happen to know where that one is being sold?

  2. I don’t. I found it via a Google images search. I can’t remember if I entered “Epiphany” or something related to the baptism of Jesus by John.

  4. If I remember how I found it I will let you know.
