The NT Wright Version of the NT!
Maybe this is old news but I discovered today that N.T. Wright has his very own “contemporary“ translation of the Bible due for release in September this year! According to Harper One it is entitled, “The King’s Version: A Contemporary Translation of the New Testament” My source also told me he has a few other smaller volumes slated for relaease around the same time including Simply Jesus.

Brian sometimes I wonder about your salvation etc (when you support the GC etc) and then you go and say something like that and totally redeem yourself!
This will be a compilation of all his “For Everyone” commentary translations.
Yes I beleive so. I don’t like the title but he will have a reason. I wish he would have produced a more scholarly translation.

Oh good, another English translation of the Bible. Like we need another one. I bet, not counting various versions of the KJV, there are at least 6 versions available at a Christian bookstore and probably 3 at a regular bookstore like Barnes and Nobles. Not, to mention the dozen other English translations available from CBD and Amazon. So, the question to ask is “why”. Money, fame, he think he knows better than the rest? What? Perhaps I am too cynical, but I don’t think so. My cynicism has done me well.

@Brian: I would imagine that this translation will sell very well; Wright has become a household name. I realized this when my Grandma was purchasing his books for study and handing them out.
Wright reminds me somewhat of another popular one time Brit: William Barclay, who also had popularity in the US. Though I have and somewhat like Barclay’s version of the NT. Though thankfully Wright has a bit more conservatism, … just a bit more!
@Ryan: Indeed, he is a household name and although Peterson is well-trained in biblical languages, I assume people will trust Wright a bit more.
Sorry if I sounded a bit whiny. I think it will get lost in the sea of other translations.
@Doug: It’s OK, I am whiny too. Often this blog is whiny because of what I write. Usually it is whiny because of Mark Stevens though.

I am never whiny myself, just historically minded…perhaps being the oldest here? Age always trumps youth, at least in my world! 
I’d rather see what Wright’s Greek text would look like/ paralled with Metzger’s…ahem I mean UBS. Probably the same.

I was wondering more about this. What are your general thoughts on translations by individuals and not committees? Appropriate? Depends on the person? Should not be considered as a reliable translation in theological study? I’ve been using the Tanakh from the Complete Jewish Bible, and I have enjoyed it. His New Testament is good, but I can’t get past the random, irrelevant Yiddish words inputed into sentences for cosmetics.
I would always choose a team translation over a single person translation. There is nothing wrong with the single person’s work (as it stands) but it is a different genre with a different purpose. Just my 2 cents.
