Juxtaposing Christianity and Islam

While I fully intend to response to James McGrath and Ekaputra Tupamahu’s comments on my post, “Yes, God is God of All: A Rejoinder to James McGrath and Ekaputra Tupamahu” I first want to mention some similar discussions going on in the blogosphere. First, Christianity Today is asking people whether or not Christians should join Muslims in celebrating Ramadan here. Second, T.C. Robinson weighs in with his response which has receive some comments here. Third, James McGrath has spread the discussion to his blog here.

  1. While the question of Christians performing Islamic or other religions’ rites is interesting in itself, the more important issue here is of tolerance of other practices.

Islam is telling you Christians that your religion is flawed, and that your scriptures are in the main a forgery – deliberate forgery designed to discredit and offend Muslims.

It totally rejects the christian doctrine of the holy trinity, and denies that Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

Further, it tells you that if you cling to your mistaken beliefs and you happen to be under Islamic control, your personal safety will not be guaranteed and you will be doomed to a life of humiliation and poverty.

This is straight mainstream Islamic theolgy – not an extremist view.

Practicing Islamic rituals will achieve nothing good. It will not enhance understanding or promote pluralism, as Islam is inherently anti pluralism – it is “Muhammad’s way or the highway”. Islam is a zero tolerance belief system – no co-existence is possible with other belief system.
